Former Minister Mahinda Samarasinghe says that they intend addressing shortcomings in the present constitution as identified by the people and making the necessary amendments in relation thereto before the upcoming elections.
He expressed these views while addressing a ceremony in Dodangoda on Thursday. The ceremony was held at the Dodangoda – Miriswatta National School for the distribution of sporting goods.
The Minister said:
Before the next elections we expect that shortcomings to the constitution will be properly identified and the peoples requirements understood and amendments be made to the constitution, accordingly. Without political division, thinking about the country and the future of the country, we intend to join hands and fulfill the task. But some people don’t have any understanding of their main duties and parliament duty is not making roads, or supplying electricity.
The Minister went on to point out that members of parliament are appointed to strengthen law and order of the country. Also to implement the constitutional steps, work together with them.
