The petition filed at the Court of Appeal against the Colombo Port City Project was taken up for hearing on Wednesday March 18.

The case was heard before a panel of Judges consisting justices Vijith Malalgoda and H.C.J. Madawala. The Petition filed by the Centre for Environmental Justice saw Attorney at-Law, Ravindranath Dabare stating that the Environmental Impact Assesment Report  that was compiled for the Port City Project was  done by the University of Moratuwa.

He said that even though the report had been created based on a land area of 300 acres, the Port City was now being built on a land area of 567 acres. Dabare claims that this causes harm for the country as well as the environment.

Court, in reply, stated that the it should first be informed of the course of action that the government is to take in this regard. Court ordered that the Attorney General be present in court on March 29  to make a statement on what steps the government will be taking in regard to the Port City Project.
