Police close in on Mattakkuliya gang demanding Rs. 5m – Investigations launched into discovery of body parts

A person who is alleged to have demanded a sum of five million rupees from a businessmen in the Mattakkuliya area has been arrested by the Colombo Crimes Division.

Police added that a group of six persons had gone to the place of business of the said businessman and had demanded  five million rupees after threatening the workers there.

Police said that the suspect is a resident of Grandpass. Police has also taken into their a custody a pistol which the suspect had allegedly used to demand the cash.

According to police, they have identified the the suspects to be members of a well-known underworld gang in Colombo. Police say they have initiated investigations into the incident.

Meanwhile, Police say that a DNA investigation will be conducted in order to identify the part of a human arm that was discovered in a canal in Nawala and the two human legs that were discovered in a canal in Dematagoda.

Police Media Spokesperson, ASP Ruwan Gunesekara said that they hope to obtain an approval from court in order to proceed further.
