The National Building Research Organisation is investigating the cave-in that took place in the Galahitiyawa area in Ambathandegama in Bandarawela. The cave in took place on Sunday evening.
An area of approximately 25 feet had thus caved in. The Disaster Management Centre said that steps have been taken to evacuate 90 individuals from 23 families residing in the area.
Meanwhile, a tense situation was reported on Monday when the people who were evacuated due to the cave in charged that they have not received any compensation. The Deputy Director E.L.M. Udaya Kumara stated that the individuals are residing with their relatives at the moment.
