The  Geological Survey and Mines  Bureau says that a team of officers have been dispatched to carry out investigations into the recent tremors that occurred in the Bakamuna area in the Polonnaruwa district.

Director General of the Bureau Dr. Bernard Prem stated that the team intends meeting with area residents in the coming days as part of their investigation adding that he expects a report in this regard shortly.

Dr. Bernard Prem stated that the tremors that took place on Wednesday (March 11)  had registered a magnitude 2.9 on the richter scale. The tremor was felt in the Bakamuna, Girirtale and Diyabethma areas in the Polonnaruwa district.
