Marking another chapter in Sri Lankan political history, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the Sri Lankan Parliament on Friday evening.
Incidentally, it was the first time in Sri Lankan history that an Indian Prime Minister addressed the Sri Lankan House of Legislature.
Javaharlal Nehru in 1962, Indira Gandhi in 1973 and Sri Morarji Desai in 1979 addressed the Sri Lankan parliamentarians in their capacity as Prime Minister but the gathering was termed a meeting of parliamentarians. It was Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi who was given the opportunity to address the MPs from within the parliamentary chambers.
After addressing the Sri Lankan Parliament, Modi placed floral tributes to the War Heroes’ Memorial opposite the parliamentary complex.
