UPFA Parliamentarian Vidura Wickramanayake participated at a function held in Horana on Sunday.
A programme to obtain signatures in order to ensure that a government stipulated price for tea and
rubber -as promised by the interim budget- was implemented during this function.
We can clearly see one thing. We can identify a government that makes empty promises to the public in order to thrive and this government tries to mislead the public. A number of promises were made to the public with the passing of the interim budget. A large number of these promises are yet to be fulfilled. There was one such promise made to the people in our district that the stipulated price for tea and rubber will be increased as these are closely associated with the livelihood of the people residing in this district. On one hand, tea which did not have a stipulated price was given a stipulated price. On the other hand, rubber which had a stipulated price now does not have one. The new stipulated price for tea too is non-existent. because of this, rubber collectors, rubber planters, small scale enterprises that sell rubber, owners of rubber shops, workers who rely on rubber products and people relying on the tea industry are facing much difficulty.
