Proper investigations needs to be carried out on aircraft parked at BIA: Wasantha Samarasinghe

Convenor of the Voice against Corruption, Wasantha Samarasinghe said that a proper investigations needs to be carried out on the aircraft parked at the Katunayake Airport.

More information is coming to light over the Boeing 727 Aircraft used for cargo transport that has been parked at the Katunayake International Airport for a long period of time.

In the midst of the revelations being made Cosmos Aviation Services, issuing a communique, said that the aircraft was leased from another company.

The statement also notes that the agreement between the company which owns the aircraft and Cosmos Aviation was annulled on  August 29, 2012.

The statement reads further that payments owed to the BIA, have been made by the company which owns the aircraft. However, this agreement on which Cosmos Aviation Services had leased the aircraft for raised more questions, based on their clarification.

Accordingly, Cosmos Aviation Services has leased this aircraft from a Ivory Coast based company name ITA.

S.S.Nathan has signed the agreement on behalf of the ITA. Both companies had reached this agreement in April 2012.

According to the agreement, all taxes, security fee and use of facilities within the airport need to be paid by Cosmos Aviation Services.
