The Indian Coast Guard has arrested six Sri Lankan fishermen.
The Hindu newspaper revealed the group of fishermen were arrested 128 nautical miles from the Nagapatnam coastal stretch.
The group of fishermen had set to sea from Trincomalee on February 27. Indian media reported that the fishermen who were brought to the KaraikKal harbour were handed over to the Coast Guard for further investigations.
Meanwhile, women from the Karaikkal region in Tamil Nadu staged a protest on Friday demanding the release of the Indian fisherman held in Sri Lankan custody.
Eighty six (86) Indian fishermen were arrested recently for violating the country’s maritime border. They are currently in remand custody.
