The Chinese Construction Company undertaking the construction of the Colombo Port City Project has decided to suspend construction.
The Colombo Port City Project which commenced in September last year saw the reclamation of hundreds of acres of ocean land.
As environmental, technical issues and issues on the contract came to the light on several occasions , the government attempted to suspend the construction of the project.
Several days ago cabinet had decided to suspect the construction of the Port City, however construction at the site continued.
When News 1st looked in to the site on Saturday, construction was not taking place.
News 1st contacted the Managing Director of the China Communications Construction Company Limited Jiang Houliang in this regard.
Deputy Minister Eran Wickremeratne said that it was decided to suspend the Colombo Port City Project after a primary assessment.
Minister Kabir Hashim on Saturday commented that the suspension of the Colombo Port City Project has no connection to the visit of the Indian Prime Minister to Sri Lanka.
