The 24th match of the ICC Cricket World cup got underway at the Manuka Oval in Canberra on Tuesday morning as the two nations in pool B South Africa and Ireland went head to head following toss winner South Africa deciding to bat first.
Hashim Amla’s 159, Faf du Plessis’s 109 and Rilee Rossouw rapid and unbeaten 61 lead South Africa post a massive score of 411 for the loss of four wickets.
Ireland’s Andy Mcbrine claimed 2 wickets for 63.
Chasing a massive target of 412 Ireland collapsed to 48-5 as they were bowled out for 210 in 45 overs despite Andrew Balbirnie’s 58.
Kyle Abbott finished with figures of 4-21 and fellow pace bowler Morne Morkel picked 3-34.
Hashim Amla walked away with the man of the match award for his brilliant performance on Tuesday’s game.
South Africa need to win only one of their remaining two group games, against Pakistan and the United Arab Emirates, to reach the next stage in the tournament.
