Speaking at the 83rd All Island Sinhala Poetry Summit on Saturday, President Maithripala Sirisena said that the country will be built based on a domestic process rather than depending on the West.

This event was held at the Kuliyapitiya Madya Maha Vidyalaya.This is first time a President has taken part at an anniversary celebration of a Sinhala Poetry Summit.

Meanwhile, the National Awards Ceremony 2014 to felicitate students who excelled in the field of Science and Technology was held under the patronage of the President Maithripala Sirisena on Friday.

The awards ceremony was held at the Presidential Secretariat.

Speaking on the occasion the President said;

A young child locks him or herself in a room with a cell phone and thinks that the entire world is at the palm of their hands. Children have more love towards their cell phones than their own parents. Sometimes they do not even wonder if their parents are there or not. But if the phone is misplaced, it is a war zone inside the house. They think that their entire future lies on technology. You can see as to how parents, scientists, technology experts, specialists and politicians have fulfilled their responsibilities. For a country as ours which is developing, your service is essential.
