United People’s Freedom Alliance Parliamentarians Sajin De Vass Gunawardena and Mahindananda Aluthgamage and the Former Chairman of the Sri Lanka Ports Authority, Priyath Bandu Wickrema have been interrogated by the Criminal Investigations Department.
The Police Media Spokesperson said that statements were recorded from MPs Sajin de Vass and Mahindananda Aluthgamage and Priyath Bandu Wickrema under the Money Laundering Act.
Speaking further on the matter, SSP Ajith Rohana stated that Wasantha Samarasinghe of the Voice against Corruption Movement, filed a complaint on February 2, 2015 and that it was filed against three individuals namely MP Sajin De Vass Gunawardena, Former Minister Mahindananda Aluthgamage and former chairman of the Sri Lanka Ports Authority Priyath Bandu Wickrema.
Furthermore, the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Aviation says that the Aviation Company of Sajin de Vass Gunawardena has been given a grace period of two weeks for to continue its operations at the Ratmalana Airport.
A communique issued by the Ministry notes that as the Private Aviation company had rented the Ratmalana Airstrip and equipment , they are yet to pay a sum of Rs.2.4 million for its use.
The Ministry adds that investigations are continuing into whether this company would be provided permission to continue to use the facilities at the Ratmalana Airport.
Meanwhile, a group expressed their displeasure over action not being taken against MP Sajin de Vass Gunawardena at an event the MP attended to declare open a filling station in Kosgoda.
