The wife of former minister Wimal Weerawansa who was placed under arrest from Sunday evening, has been remanded until February 25.
Meanwhile, the CID informed court on Monday that the former minister’s wife, had been using two National Identity Cards, with different numbers.
The Criminal Investigation’s Department is at present conducting investigations to find out if she had carried out any financial transactions via banks using the two NICs.
The wife of former minister Wimal Weerawansa, Shehasa Udayanthi or Shashi Weerawansa was arrested on Sunday whilst receiving treatment at a private hospital in Malabe.
The CID made submissions to the Colombo Chief Magistrate’s Court on Monday.
The Criminal Investigations Department had presented a motion to Chief Magistrate Gihan Pilapitiya on Monday citing that she had forged her birth certificate and her passport.
Meanwhile, the two numbers of the NICs used by Shashi Weerawansa were produced to courts on Monday by the Criminal Investigation Department.
Responding to the CID’s request for Shashi Weerawansa who was in hospital, to be produced in court, the Magistrate noted that court should be informed of the reason for her hospitalisation, via a report from the Judicial Medical Officer.
The JMO had conducted an examination of Shashi Weerawansa on Monday evening.
Meanwhile, the Special Investigations Unit at Police Headquarters, recorded a statement from Former Minister Wimal Weerawansa on Monday.
The statement was recorded over a complaint lodged by the Mayor of Kaduwela G.H. Buddhadasa, that the former minister had held an illegal procession during campaigning for the 2011 local government elections.
