Workers at the Uma Oya Project, staged a demonstration on Friday demanding the resumption of construction on the project, which has been temporarily halted.
Following a News1st expose on the harmful impact that the construction of the Uma Oya Multipurpose Development Project, had on local residents, the Deputy Subject Minister, decided to temporarily halt construction.
The Geological Survey and Mines Bureau is currently conducting research into the Uma Oya Project.
However, workers at the Uma Oya Project say that they have lost their jobs as a result of construction coming to a stop.
The demonstrators blocked the Colombo-Monaragala main road for over an hour.Our reporter said that the police later intervened to restore the flow of traffic.
