Hindi hashtags are trending in India. On Sunday, after India won the World Cup match against Pakistan by 76 runs, the hashtag #जयहिन्द (Jai Hind) started trending on twitter.

There have been over 61,000 tweets with the hashtag in three days.

On Tuesday, #हरहरमहादेव (Har Har Mahadev) was viral on social media, right after #MahaShivratri.

There have been more than 18,000 tweets with this hashtag on a day Shivratri is being celebrated in the country.

Although anyone can tweet in Hindi, Hindi hashtags are trending for the first time.

Recently, Google launched a Hindi Input keyboard for Android to allow people to type phonetically using the English letters. Last year, Google had introduced the “Indian Languages Internet Alliance (ILIA)” in India which allowed news content producers in India, along with the government to team up with Google and ensure that Internet content in Hindi becomes easily available.

Last month, Twitter also enabled Hindi and Urdu translations for tweets with the help of Bing. Twitter added support for Hindi earlier in 2011 when it hit 100 million users worldwide.
