The Chinese Foreign Ministry revealed on Tuesday (February 17th) that Sri Lankan foreign minister Managala Samaraweera will visit China next week. This is incidentally the highest-level trip to Beijing by a member of the new government.
Reuters reports that China has been unnerved by the recent re-examination of certain key Chinese-invested projects in Sri Lanka, including the $1.5 billion “port city” project in Colombo.
Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying said that Sri Lankan Foreign Minister Mangala Samaraweera would meet his Chinese counterpart and other officials on his February 27-28 trip.
