The National Building Research Organisation has warned over 100 individuals to evacuate from the Pahalagama area in Udawatte located in Hanguranketha.
This warning was given taking to account the landslide risk in the area. Over the past few days active landslides were reported from the area.
Landslides are normally reported from this area during a heavy down pour. However, landslides are reported from this area even when no rainy weather is being experienced.
An earth embankment collapsed on this house (please watch video) during the early hours of Saturday.
The National Building Research Organisation says that the soil which had loosened as a result of the heavy rains that were experienced had attributed to this uncertain situation in the area even during the period where there is no rain.
The NBRO says that taking the risk into account, 100 persons residing in 18 houses were instructed to evacuate.
These persons evacuated their residences on Friday and Saturday and sought refuge in safer locations.
Director of the Landslide Research and Risk Management Division of the NBRO, R.M.S. Bandara said a special investigation will be conducted over this situation during next week.
