Electricity and petroleum-related trade unions say that investigations need to be conducted on the fraud and corruption, and the perpetrators need to be punished.
The trade unions expressed their views at two separate press conferences convened on Thursday.
Speaking at the CEB press conference, Steering Committee member of the CEB joint trade union alliance, Ranjan Jayalal stated that those who hold administrative positions at the CEB have received a wages increase from 70 – 124 percent. He added that this happened as a result of the circular that was issued in order to increase the wages in a fraudulent manner.
Meanwhile, speaking at the Petroleum Corporation press conference, General Secretary of the CPC Branch of the JSS, Ananda Palitha stated that everyone involved in fraud should be arrested and necessary measures should be taken immediately. He also added that if the minister do not do what is right and chase away the corrupt individuals, the voice that was raised against Rajapaksa will rise again.
