President Maithripala Sirisena says that Rs. 158 million were incurred by the presidential palace in catering expenses, in the run-up to the presidential election.
Addressing the gathering at an event held in Polonnaruwa on Sunday, the President said:
This is the extent to which they misused state property and state wealth during the election. From the 1st of November to the 8th of January, the Presidential Palace had spent 158 million rupees on feeding people. The Accountant at the Presidential Secretariat brought the files to me to approve payment. I said we would decide later on whether we will pay these bills or not.
The Janatha Abhinanda Uththamachara festival, was held at the Nittambuwa Public Grounds on Sunday, under the auspices of President Maithripala Sirisena and Former President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunge.
