Wattala PS Clash: Police on the lookout for suspect

The police say that they are still on the lookout to arrest one more suspect in connection with the clashes that broke out at the Wattala Pradeshiya Sabha recently.

On the morning of January 30, certain persons broke into the Wattala Pradeshiya Sabha while the council was in session and attempted to force the Chairman, Thyagaratne Alwis, from his seat.

The Chairman later alleged that he had been assaulted. Among those involved in the incident were Sumith Kumara a.k.a Ruwan Niluka Niroshan, Harshana Prasad Silva, Chamara Eric Perera, Chandana Sisira Kumara, Bimal Prasanna, Asiri Rodrigo and Royce Beno Fernando

They were taken into custody by the police. The suspects were later released on bail and the case pertaining to the incident, is to be taken up on Thursday.

Meanwhile, speaking in Parliament on February 2, Opposition Leader Nimal Siripala de Silva cited the Wattala incident, as one of the reasons for a no-confidence motion against Minister John Amaratunga, which they will present in parliament.
