Parliament was adjourned at 3.12pm on Monday for 10 following a tense situation.

The decision to adjourn the parliament was taken by Deputy Speaker Chandima Weerakkody.

Parliament was adjourned when the debate on the special statement made by Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe on the issues surrounding the removal of the Chief justice was taking place.

According to our parliamentary correspondent a large number of opposition MPs have worn black arm bands to express their protest with regard to the removal of Chief Justice Mohan Peiris

Our reporter added that parliamentary proceedings have commenced once again.
