The Customs Department has commenced investigations into an alleged Rs. 350 million tax fraud involving the importing of textiles uncovered on Sunday.
Customs Media Spokesperson Leslie Gamini said two compaines had imported goods worth Rs.825 million without paying the required duty or levies.
He said that the containers of material had been brought into the country last year and was discovered in two factories in Ipalohgama and Kekirawa.
Customs had learnt that the two companies had never exported the manufactured goods back to the respective destinations but had sold them within the country.
