Over 3000 automatic and semi-automatic weapons discovered from Galle armoury (Watch report)

Investigations pertaining to the floating armoury discovered on a ship docked at the Galle Harbour have been handed over to the Criminal investigations Department.

Police Media Spokesperson SSP Ajith Rohana noted that questions have arisen with regard to the warehouse permit and that special attention will be paid to this in future investigations.

The floating armoury was discovered on Sunday, based on a tip-off. Police said that about 3154 automatic and semi-automatic weapons were discovered in the armoury. It was suspected that the warehouse belonged to a private security firm. Police also discovered 747,859 rounds of ammunition.

Police Media Spokesperson SSP Ajith Rohana noted that the police will investigate as to how a private organisation received permission maintain such a large armoury.
