Police raid Cannabis plantation in Lunugamvehera Reserve

Police have raided a large plantation of Cannabis in the Salmal Pelassa area within the the Lunugamvehera Reserve. More than 19,000 Cannabis plants that had grown more than 6 feet tall on a land expanse of 3.5 acres were destroyed in the raid.

Police stated that a resident of Angunakolapelassa has been arrested in connection to the incident.

Meanwhile, a cab transporting a stock of Cannabis along the Thanamalwila – Embilipitiya road was taken into custody in Moraketiya. The Police Media Spokesperson’s unit stated that the stock of Cannabis was found carefully concealed in the back of the cab.

Police stated that the Cannabis – weighing more than 136kg- was being transported under the guise of chicken feed. The driver of the cab who is a resident of Thanamalwila has been arrested on suspicion in connection to the incident.
