Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa has decided to hand over the position of Chairman of the Sri Lanka Freedom Party to President Maithripala Sirisena.
Media Secretary of the Former Head of State Wijeyananda Herath speaking to News 1st said that Mahinda Rajapaksa reached this decision to prevent the SLFP from splitting in two.
Thereby, the Central Committee of the SLFP will convene on Friday and take the required steps in this regard.
Wijeyananda Herath went on to say that the Former President extends his gratitude to all those who had faith in him and voted for him.
