Addressing the nation on Sunday, January 11, President Maithripala Sirisena was quick to highlight that tackling fraud and corruption in large development projects would be a priority of his government.
In his address to the nation, delivered from the Temple of the Tooth Relic in Kandy, the President invited all political parties in the Parliament to come together to form a national unity government.
President Maithripala Sirisena also highlighted the importance of strengthening Sri Lanka’s agrarian economy.
Echoing remarks he made during his inaugural address, President Sirisena stressed that this was the first and last presidential election he would contest.
The President spent the morning conducting religious ceremonies and meeting with the chief prelates and also visited the Bishops House in Kandy.
