The Ministry of Education said that except for the 68 schools which are being used for the marking of GCE Ordinary Level examination answer scripts and the schools set aside as counting centres for the presidential election – all other schools will commence their academic year today, Monday, January 5.
All government and semi-private schools will be closed on January 7, 8 and 9 as the school principals and teachers will be performing election duties in view of the upcoming presidential polls.
Accordingly, schools commencing their new academic year today will be closed again tomorrow- t January 6 – and will re-open on January 12.
The Ministry of Education said that schools that are being used as centres for the marking of the Ordinary Level Examination answer scripts will commence their academic year on January 12.
Meanwhile, 48 schools which will house the police officers who are to provide security for the arrival of Pope Francis will be closed from January 11 – 15 and will re-open on the 16th of January 16.
