The Chief Prelates of the Malwathu and Asgiri chapters, request the Elections Commissioner to enable the peoples right to vote in a free and fair environment.
The letter signed by the Chief Prelate of the Malwathu Chapter the most Ven. Thibbatuwawe Sri Sumangala Thero and the Chief Prelate of the Asgiri chapter, the most Ven Udugama Sri Buddha Rakkitha Thero reads that an environment for a free, fair and impartial democratic election process that will win the respect of the world must be created.
The Chief Prelates call on the elections commissioner to ensure that the law is enforced fairly with regard to incidents of vandalism, intimidation and loss of life that have already been reported in several areas.
Furthermore, the Chief Prelates say that they are happy with the efforts undertaken this far by the elections Commissioner to execute his duties with a certain level of fairness and impartiality.
Meanwhile, at a media briefing convened this afternoon, Elections Commissioner Mahinda Deshapriya stated that he will not bow to thuggery in any form.
