Around 199,000 acres of paddy lands in fourteen districts have been destroyed owing to inclement weather.
Commissioner General of the Department of Agrarian Development M.A.S Weerasinghe stated that a loss of Rs.300 million has been borne as a result.
Five hundred and ten (510) small tanks in 14 districts including Anuradhapura and Polonnaruwa have been damaged owing to incessant rains.
An amount of Rs.886 million has been estimated for the reconstruction of these tanks and and an estimate of Rs.609 million has been made to repair thirteen fertiliser storage facilities and several canals.
Rs.280 million has been allocated as compensation for the damaged farmland. Commissioner General M.A.S Weerasinghe further stated that compensation will be paid within the next two to three weeks.
