Addressing a public rally in Borella on Thursday Presidential Candidate of the New Democratic Front Maithripala Sirisena stated that the reign of Mahinda Rajapaksa will come to an end in another seven days.
Maithripala Sirisena notes that the current administration is attempting to seek another eight years in office by calling for early elections. He went on to describe the New Democratic Front as “a political alliance that has never been created before.”
Opposition Leader Ranil Wickremesinghe addressing the gathering noted that President Mahinda Rajapaksa is similar to the Tiatnic. He said that although people said he cannot be defeated, he has not met his match.
Dr. Rajitha Senaratne who also defected along with Maithripala Sirisena stated that this is the first occasion on which 26 government members crossed over adding that defections will continue to take place in the coming days.
