Youth injured in Rajagiriya accident ‘in critical condition’ – hospital sources reveal

Dr. Anil Jasinghe, Director of the National Hospital in Colombo, said that the youth who met with an accident at Rajagiriya on Monday is in critical condition.

Meanwhile, Police Media Spokesperson, SSP Ajith Rohana said that they have remanded a university student in Weligama who is suspected of involvement with the incident.

An 18-year-old and a 17-year-old were injured after they were knocked down when a Defender and a Tipper collided in Kalapaluwawa, Rajagiriya. An eyewitness said that the Defender that drove at high speed sustained damages, while another Defender that drove behind it whisked away the passengers inside the Defender that met with the accident.

The Police Media Spokesperson said that the Defender in connection with the accident has been seized by the police and that relevant details regarding the vehicle has been obtained through the Department of Registration of Motor Vehicles. However, he added that measures are being taken to compile a special report regarding the chassis number and the engine number. The two Defenders are currently in the custody of the police.
