According to Police Headquarters, the Sri Lanka Police hopes to seek assistance from Interpol to bring Deputy Minister Nishantha Muthuhettigama to book.
Police Media Spokesperson SSP Ajith Rohana stated that if the wanted deputy minister remains out of the country for an extended period of time, steps will be taken to arrest him with the assistance of the Interpol.
He added that as a warrant has already been issued to arrest Nishantha Muthuhettigama, he would be arrested if he returns to Sri Lanka.
According to the Police Media Spokesperson there were no police officers on duty at the VIP terminal of the Bandaranaike International Airport and hence the deputy minister was able to evade the police.
