Australia’s Shane Watson has been left “shaken” after he sustained a blow to the head from a bouncer during training for the Boxing Day Test with India.
The all-rounder’s helmet was struck by a ball from fast bowler James Pattinson in the Melbourne Cricket Ground nets.
Pattinson’s short ball floored Watson as he landed on his backside before slowly removing his helmet and walking out of the nets.
The 33-year-old was assessed by doctors and according to Cricket Australia spokesperson Watson has been shaken but otherwise okay.
Mitchell Starc was also limped out of the net session ahead of the third Test on Friday after he was struck on the knee by a ball.
Australia batsman Phillip Hughes died last month after he was struck on the neck by a ball during a domestic match.
