Presidential candidate Maithripala Sirisena says that as a leader who has identified the hardships of the people, he is committed to serve the people to the maximum.
He made this pledge at a rally held in Digana, on Saturday.
Maithripala Sirisena speaking at the rally said:
Today in this country, you know how many presidential residences have been established. There is a presidential residence in Fort. There is a presidential residence in Kandy. There is a presidential residence in Nuwara Eliya. There is a presidential residence in Anuradhapura. Never has a leader of this country allocated funds to build new presidential residences. Over the past five to six years, Mahinda Rajapaksa has spent billions on turning these into palaces of kings. This is your money. The people of this nation are going hungry. The youth do not have jobs. They do not have the means to live. But those in the royal family have palaces. That is the luxury that they have. They never looked into the situation faced by the ordinary man. As a politician who is grounded to this earth, as a politician who has taken to the streets with the ordinary man, I wish to clearly state to you, that I will continue to live among you.
Representatives of several political parties attended the rally, held under the auspices of New Democratic Front Presidential Candidate, Maithripala Sirisena, in Digana, Kandy.
