Colombo District Court Judge Sujatha Alahapperuma on Friday issued notices to four television channels based on a case filed at the Colombo District Court by Presidential Candidate Maithripala Sirisena.

Thereby, the Heads of the Sri Lanka Rupavahini Corporation, Derana TV, Hiru TV and Swarnavahini have been called to appear before court on December 29.

The complaint filed by Presidential Candidate Maithripala Sirisena cites that excerpts from a speech he made on President Mahinda Rajapaksa whilst he was a cabinet minister five years ago are being used in an advertisement.

The complaint reads that the use of such material to promote the candidacy of a candidate not only violated the regulations set out by the Elections Commissioner but also harms his candidacy.

The request made to issue an enjoining order on the aforementioned television channels was rejected by court.
