The People’s Action for free and fair elections or PAFFREL stated that 35 foreign election monitors will be arriving in the country on December 27, ahead of the presidential elections.

Executive Director of PAFFREL Rohana Hettiarachchi stated that the election monitors will monitor election activities for two weeks.

According to the PAFFREL organisation, seven incidents of serious election violence have been reported. Election monitors have stated that, thus far 98 complaints have been lodged with regard to election law violations.

The election law violations have been reported in several provinces including the Western, Southern, Central and Uva Provinces. The most number of violations were reported from the Western Province.
