The Eksath Lak Vanitha Peramuna, the UNP-affiliated women’s organisation, has condemned the recent statement made by Minister S.B. Dissanayake, targetting former President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga.

At a media briefing convened on Friday members of the organisation expressed the following views

UNP Parliamentarian, Rosy Senanayake said:
We see this as an incident that must be condemned. Everyone should know that such harassment is punishable under the penal code and is a criminal act. Thereby, we call on the President, to immediately condemn the statement made by Minister S.B. Dissanayake regarding women in this country, and that he ensure that the minister resigns from his position.
Chairperson of Eksath Lak Vanitha Peramuna, Shanthini Kongahage said:
We are not speaking only because it is Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunga. Prior to this, we have seen the insult that this Minister levelled at a reputed sportswoman in this country. I ask whether First Lady Shiranthi Wickremasinghe approves of such statements? Does Minister Pavithra Devi Wanniarachchi approve of such statements? Will this be cloaked under privileges?
