Highest number of election-related complaints recorded from Colombo district

Seventy three (73) complaints have been lodged thus far with the Election Secretariat ahead of the presidential poll.

Fifty nine (59) minor complaints and fourteen other complaints related to incidents of elections violence have been lodged. These includes personal attacks, shootings and intimidation.

The highest number of complaints were recorded in the Colombo district with the number standing at nine. On Tuesday night an unidentified group had attacked some hoardings in Kolonnawa of Western Provincial Councilor, Hirunika Premachandra. Meanwhile, an unidentified group had attacked a house in Ambathanna, Katugastota.

The house of a UNP member of the Pathadumbara Pradeshiya Sabha, Athula Bandara Ekanayake, in Meegammana, Wattegama, in Kandy  came under attack on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, the JVP lodged complaint with the Human Rights Commission on Wednesday requesting a stop to illegal campaign activity.

The Elections Commissioner, Inspector General of Police, Heads of Local Government Authorities and Police OICs have been cited as respondents in this petition.
