Police Headquarters says that fifteen persons including two Pradeshiya Sabha Chairmen have been arrested for election-related violence.
According to Police Media Spokesperson SSP Ajith Rohana, fifteen complaints have been lodged thus far subsequent to the announcement of the presidential elections.
Meanwhile, the Office of the Elections Secretariat notes that over 600,000 applications have been received for postal voting for the upcoming presidential elections. Additional Elections Commissioner U. Amaradasa said that the approving of postal votes will be conducted on December 12 while postal ballot papers will be issued on December 15. The marking of postal votes will be carried out on December 23 and 24..
Meanwhile, the Additional Elections Commissioner says that steps are underway to announce the candidates approved to contest for the presidential poll through a gazette notification.
