The Chairman of the Mawathagama Pradeshiya Sabha, Upul Perera, who turned himself over to court in connection with a recent clash with a group of UNP supporters in the Mawathagama town, has been released on bail.
The confrontation occurred on November 21, while a vehicular procession carrying UNP Mawathagama Organiser J.C. Alawathuwala, was passing a UPFA office located in the town centre.
Thirteen (13) persons including the Chairman of the Mawathagama Pradeshiya Sabha, turned themselves over to the Pilessa Magistrate through an attorney, on Friday afternoon.
Pilessa Magistrate, Namal Perera ordered that the suspects be released on bail set at Rs.5,000 each and two bonds of Rs.100,000 each.
