President Mahinda Rajapaksa says the 2015 presidential poll will not be a challenge to the current government that created a better quality of life for the people.
The President made this comment while addressing the SLFP All Island Steering Committee. The SLFP All Island Steering Committee and representatives of Local Government Institutions called on Presidential Mahinda Rajapaksa on Wednesday evening.
The President expressed the following views:
In 2005, when all my offices were shutdown and not even a single leaflet was not printed on my behalf, it was you who shouldered my burden. Remember that. I visited the villages. I went to Embilipitya and Kataragama. After visiting Embilipitiya I gained more strength. Why? Because I witnessed that the people in the villages are still with us. There are people who still love us. They have not changed. Leaders may change, leaders may come and go, hence – this is not a challenge. It is you who protected this party, It is the people. Therefore, we need to protect this party and remain united.
We need to keep in mind that when we have to retire we need to have created a country where the future generations can explore the world.”
At the meeting convened by the SLFP All Island Steering Committee it was unanimously decided to abolish the SLFP membership of Maithripala Sirisena, and others who defected along with him.
