The Bar Association of Sri Lanka has directed a letter of demand to the Urban Commissioner of the Colombo Municipal Council. The letter of demand has been sent over the failure of the CMC to remove unauthorised hoardings erected within the Colombo City.

Secretary of Bar Association of Sri Lanka, Attorney-at-Law, Ajith Pathirana shared these views:

“At a time when a presidential election has been called for, a large number of unauthorised hoardings are being erected within the City of Colombo. This is taking place in contravention to the provisions of the Colombo Municipal Council Act. The Elections Commissioner had also informed the Urban Commissioner of the Colombo Municipal Council to take down all unauthorited hoardings. Hence, we have sent her a letter of demand addressed to the urban commissioner. The beauty of the city is lost because of these hoardings. Traffic signs cannot be seen due to these cutouts and this can result in fatal accidents taking place. This can also result in traffic congestion. A gazette has been issued by the Municipal Council to prevent such incidents taking place. Hence, we believe its the responsibility of the Municipal Council to arrest this situation.”
