Speaking at a meeting in Galewala, Minister of Land and Land Development Janaka Bandara Tennakoon stated that he had warned President Mahinda Rajapaksa and MP Namal Rajapaksa, that there would be defections from the party.

Speaking further Minister Janaka Bandara Tennakoon, reiterated that he would not leave the party and betray his policies. The Minister broke down in tears when he made this statement.
I told the President on three or four occasions, that such a fate would befall our party, that there were people who have had enough and that he should please look into it. When MP Namal Rajapaksa came to my house in Dambulla, I said “Son, there is a problem, look into it”. They said no, no, that it would not happen. But they forgot that I am a policeman. When I say something, I say it from the heart. Why? Because the Sri Lanka Freedom Party is our life. My father, was an innocent, poor man who commenced his political life by selling his poetry.
