Common Opposition Candidate Maithripala Sirisena, commenced his presidential election campaign in Polonnaruwa on Sunday. This campaign was launched at the 28th post area in Kaduruwela in Polonnaruwa.

A large number of opposition politicians were present at the occasion.

At the campaign, Common Candidate, Maithripala Sirisena expressed these views:
When I was chosen as the common candidate, many people spoke to me and a number of them came to me and told me to put up cut-outs, to paste posters, buy polythene and that they will provide finances for it. I told them my election campaign, our election campaign, will not consist of cut outs or polythene..Every cent that would have been spent to buy polythene or cut outs will be donated to the kidney patients of this country. I will make a fund for them. Your Excellency the President there are no cut outs atop Sigiriya, you can put them up there. You can put up cut-outs at Adam’s peak, you can put them in the Sinharaja Forest too. Put them everywhere.. I say to you .. My image is not printed on cut outs but embedded in the hearts of the people.
