Wild elephant attacks women in Hingurakgoda

Two women from Hingurakgoda were injured in a wild elephant attack on Friday morning.

Police said that one of the women is currently receiving treatment at the ICU of the Polonnaruwa Base Hospital.

The two women fell victim to a  charging wild elephant at around 6 a.m. Friday close to the Boralukanda Temple in Hingurakgoda. Officers from the Minneriya Wild Life Office who later arrived at the scene and tranquilised the pachyderm.

This was the third occasion during the past few days on which wild elephants roamed into a populated areas.
