Two people were killed by a wild elephant, which was wandering around in the sacred city of Anuradhapura. A tense situation arose after the wild elephant was seen roaming around in the city once again on Wednesday morning.

It was suspected that the wild elephant had entered the city form the reserve within close proximity to the Tissaweva. The elephant had arrived on to the Ellakatuwa road through a paddy field.

The second victim, a sixty-year-old,  succumbed to his injuries after being admitted to the hospital.

It is reported that wild life officials were able to tranquilise and tie up the elephant after an operation that lasted around six hours.
