S. B. Dissanayake says that before the end of next year, all courses will be amended in a such a way that diploma-holders will be able to obtain a degree.
The minister made this observation while addressing a media briefing in Colombo on Monday.
Many higher technical colleges have been converted into institutes that award degrees. Gazette notification in this regard has also been issued. Not only higher technical institutes, at least two nursing schools will be converted into institutes that award degrees. At the same time we have informed those who are following physiotherapy courses, technician courses and pharmacy courses that they will be able to continue their studies upto degree level. At a juncture where all preparations are made to award degree to all those who are studying for a higher diploma, those who are doing accountancy diplomas are subjected to injustice. Their course has been reduced to three years. This is very unfair.
