A heated argument broke out in Parliament on Monday over Sri Lanka’s humiliating 5-0 whitewash against India in the India – Sri Lanka tour.

Involving the Sports Ministry in the budget debate, UNP Parliamentarian Naleen Bandara said that Sri Lanka Cricket is responsible for the team’s defeat.

Deputy Minister Sanath Jayasuriya said that he would take full responsibility. Parlimentarian Arjuna Ranathunga added that pressure is being exerted on Sri Lanka Cricket by the BCCI.

Sports Minister Mahindananda Aluthgamage stated that the issue of match-fixing should be brought forward to the Parliament as soon as possible.
