Three children who lost both their parents in the Koslanda Merriyabedda landslide have been handed over to their close relatives. The hand over took place based on orders issued by the Bandarawela Magistrate Courts. The Child Protection Authority said that they will continue to observe the children.
The authority said that necessary steps are currently being taken to improve the mental condition of the children who have been displaced due to the landslides. The Child Protection Authority further said that a special group of officers have been placed on duty in camps housing the displaced.
Meanwhile. authorities have taken steps to obtain the assistance of eye witnesses for operations carried out in Meeriyabedda, Koslanda.
Major General Mano Perera said that two more bodies were found during operations carried out with the assistance of eye witnesses on Friday. Meanwhile, the loss of the temporary location where the those displaced due to the threat of landslides in Leonard Estate were occupying was reported to News1st.
The residents of the upper section of the Leonard estate in Ragala were temporarily occupying the function hall of the Madawatte Kovil.However they had to leave the place unexpectedly due to a wedding ceremony due to be held on Saturday.
Residents said that the authorities asked them to return to their homes amidst the prevailing threat of landslides. When News1st made an inquiry from Nuwara Eliya district secretary D.P.G Kumarasiri in this regard he said that the residents were requested to return to their homes as the threat of landslides in the area was lifted by the National Building Research Organisation.
